Mac-Binge: a netflix queue

Being a royal is not as easy or glamorous as it seems, just ask Macbeth. To relax, when he isn't yelling at witches, washing his hands, or plotting a murder, he enjoys a little screen time (okay, maybe a lot). His Netflix queue is not only entertaining, in fact, it is also quite revealing:

1. Pretty Little Liars- the guilty pleasure chick-flick
Macbeth added this show to his queue a while ago, "for Lady Macbeth," and kept watching because, really, who is A? As he watched he unconsciously picked up some ways to avoid spilling the truth. This came in handy when he chose to kill poor Duncan, and needed to get away with it.
2. Ghost Adventures Collection- turning viewers in to not-so-skeptics after all
This show is a classic and a must when you live in an old Scottish castle, with who knows how many wandering spirits. Macbeth enjoyed this show, but not too late at night, because ghosts freak him out. (he did pick up some tips for communicating with the ghosts in his own castle, though) These images definitely helped fuel his particular hallucination of Banquo as a ghost.
3. The Thin Blue Line- the post murder movie
A documentary that Macbeth added shortly after Duncan's blood had been rinsed off the walls. A director shows the life and story of a murderer, portraying him in an innocent light. Macbeth used this film to attempt to cope with his own feelings of guilt; he was trying to see how the blame could be placed elsewhere.
4. A Christmas Carol- a holiday classic?
While the holly jolly movie has been a reoccurrence in the Macbeth household each winter, it is much more than that now. Scrooge is considered a dark and mean man and is plagued by ghosts; they help him recognize his guilt and be renewed. Macbeth wonders if he too can be changed or saved and finds comfort in others feeling similar guilt.
5. Charmed- the wyrd world of witches
Macbeth and Banquo used to Netflix and chill, as friends, and this was a popular choice. They were fascinated by this drama of three sisters who interact with the supernatural, and who might be supernatural themselves. The boys definitely believed in the supernatural and thought this would give them some nifty insight. The witches on this show don't have beards (lame), but this explains the confusion about those uglies on the heath.

  1. I love your selection of movies and shows just by the way! Your reasoning behind them are pretty great as well. I personally love the Ghost Adventures Collection and your connection to Banquo's ghost. I wonder if the Ghost Whisperer series would be good for Macbeth as well when talking about ghosts. Anyways, I think it would be interesting to see how Macbeth feels about A Christmas Carol at the beginning of the play versus at the end. Maybe he wouldn't be able to relate to it as much at the end of the play as his guilt has sort of disappeared. Great post and I love the video!

  2. Awesome selections Kaylee, I like how all these movies and shows are totally different from each other. Your explanation are really good, I like the one about ghosty adventures, I wonder how a show can make you hallucinate. A Christmas Carol is a really good choice, the ghosts in it and in Macbeth do bring out feelings of guilt, great connection.

  3. I really like how you addressed multiple different aspects of Macbeth's character through this recommendation list. You were able to touch on his guilt, his fascination with the supernatural, and even his desire to kill. I particularly love your choice of the Christmas Carol because at first, one wouldn't even consider it, but after your explanation about how Scrooge also was consumed by guilt, just like Macbeth, it makes so much sense. Really great job, Kaylee - I enjoyed reading your post :)

  4. I love this post! The language that you use is very creative and the title is great! I like how you included that Macbeth watching PLL would help him cover up the murder of Duncan. I also think that Macbeth would enjoy Ghost Adventures as it would help him communicate with Banquo's ghost. Macbeth would definitely watch A Christmas Carol because of the guilt that he feels after killing Duncan. You have very good reasons behind all of your selections and with these selections, you have included many of the main aspects and themes of the play including: secrets, guilt, ghosts, witches, and murder.

  5. You chose such a wide range of movies and tv shows that really encapsulate Macbeth's personality. I love all of your choices especially Charmed, I chose the same show for Lady Macbeth! I like how you related it to Macbeth and how it would help him and Banquo to learn about the supernatural.

  6. In particular, your decision to recommend Pretty Little Liars is on point for Macbeth's character. I can honestly see how you would make the parallel. Good post, liked the other recommendations as well.
